On the 9th of May 2023, we have seen the release of Cheval Blanc and Chateau Angelus.
Cheval Blanc 2022
First out in this years en primeur campaign on the 9th May 2023 is Cheval Blanc from Saint Emilion, and the price is up by approximately 21% on last years release. The co-owners LVMH have coined the move as a step change in price. The ex negociant price is 470 Euro a bottle, which is equivalent to £5,760 per case of 12 bottles at 75cl each according to Liv-ex. The chateau is releasing around two thirds of the total production at en primeur, the residue will only be released when it is ready to drink, which is the same approach that Chateau Latour has taken for all production.

Chateau Angelus
Shortly after Cheval Blanc, Chateau Angelus, also from Saint Emilion has become the second estate to release its price on the 9th May 2023. Again, we have seen another increase in the price, and this time the price is up by over 30% according to Liv-ex. This is the highest release price in the last 22 vintages.
The ex negociant price is 350 Euro a bottle, which is equivalent to £4,296 per case of 12 bottles at 75cl each according to Liv-ex. This price eclipses the second ever highest release price for Angelus when compared to the 2016 vintage at 294 Euro per bottle. The only wines from the estate to be higher in value from the secondary market according to Liv-ex are the 2000, 2005 and 2012 which all have 97 points awarded by Neal Martin. Neal Martin is one of the most influential critics when it comes to en primeur.
