Bordeaux, Wine Investment, News, En Primeur, Critic Scores, Chateau Clinet

On the 14th of June 2023, we have seen the release of Chateau Clinet.

Chateau Clinet 2022

On the 14th June 2023, we now see the release of the first growth wine from Pomerol named Clinet, and the price is up 23.6% on last years release. The ex negociant price is 81.60 Euro a bottle. The wine is being offered by the international trade for £980.00 per case of 12 bottles at 75cl each according to Liv-ex, and this will result in an increase of 23.7% on the opening price of the 2021's.

The new release is one of the most expensive recent vintages wine on the market. See more pricing analysis below.

Fair Value analysis

There is no significant correlation between Clinet Market Prices and Neal Martin scores – the chosen critic for Liv-ex’s ‘Fair Value’ methodology.

That said, Château Client prices are 74% correlated to Wine Advocate scores.

Today’s release is coming to the market above several others currently available. Buyers looking for value may want to consider the 95-point 2018 vintage, which received a similar score to today’s release and is available at an 22.4% discount.

With several years in bottle, the 96-point 2015 might also be an option for an 6.1% discount. The 94-point 2020, and the 93-point 2017 also look like attractive options.

Critics’ scores

Neal Martin (Vinous) awarded the wine a barrel range of 94-96, praising the ‘impressive delineation’ of the flavour and finish. In his words: ‘Excellent. But it is a vintage that requires time in bottle’.

William Kelley (Wine Advocate) gave the wine a range of (94-96)+, nothing that the 2022 Clinet is a ‘success’. He likens this vintage to the ‘more refined 2018 and 2019’ vintages at Client, highlighting the prowess of this delicate winemaking despite the ‘extreme vintage’.

Jean-Marc Quarin scored it a slightly higher 97-points. He commented that ‘the wine evolves with class in the touch, without ever departing from the historically mellow nature of the cru’.
