On the 2nd of June 2023, we have seen the release of Chateau Haut-Batailley

On the 2nd June 2023, we now see the release of the the fifth growth wine from Pauillac named Haut-Batailley, and the price is up 19.1% on last years release. The ex negociant price is 43.20 Euro a bottle. The wine is offered by the international trade for £500.00 per case of 12 bottles at 75cl each according to Liv-ex, and this will result in an increase of 6.4% on the opening price of the 2021's.

Fair Value analysis

At £500 per 12×75 for the new release, buyers looking for value might want to consider back vintages of Haut-Batailley such as the 2019, 2016 and 2015 vintages.

The 2019 vintage holds a score of 93-95 points from Neal Martin (Vinous), and it is available at a 16% discount to today’s release. The 2016 vintage received 94 points from Martin and is available at a 27.8% discount to today’s release (£361 per 12×75). The 2015 vintage scored 92-94 points and is available at a 34% discount to today’s release (£330 per 12×75).

Critics’ scores

Neal Martin (Vinous) awarded the 2022 Haut-Batailley a barrel range of 93-95 points, commenting on its ‘very intense and almost untamed bouquet’ that will ‘need some taming’ with age. The wine is, in his words, ‘like a young tiger at the moment’.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown (Wine Independent) seemingly agreed, calling it a wine that ‘gallops out of the glass’ with a rating of 92-94 points.

Jane Anson (Inside Bordeaux) scored it at 93 points, deeming it a ‘lovely wine’ with the ‘phenolic richness and density of the year’.
